In the great outdoors, camping-with-horses can be fun
Pack trips and camping-with-horses is fun today because of the ability to successfully
pack for a trip
on horses but in the wild west cowboys camped under the stars out of necessity.

Cowboys who traveled light such as herdsman, ranch hands, and occasional outlaws had only the shirt on their back and a hand gun on their side.

Todays cowboy camps are made easier through purchasing camping supplies at the local camping store and utilizing a camping-trip-checklist for their
horseback
riding trip.
One reason for escaping to the wilderness is to relieve the stress and to enjoy family camping. One of my favorite things about camping is waking up to the smell of coffee and realizing that someone else woke up early to make it.

In our experience, Pack trips has always been filled with fun and exciting adventure. One time while taking a pack
trip
we were crossing a river and we stopped the horses in the middle. The water was only up to the horse's knees, and we could see the trout swimming through the horses legs. It was exhilarating. I wanted to reach down into the water and touch them, but knew I couldn't.
Pack trips can be at least a week long and requires extensive planning. If you go with a professional outfitter and guide, they will provide the equipment and supplies necessary for your trip. If you are not using a professional guide for a pack trip, see our page on camping checklist for ideas.
