Cowboys in the past had trouble finding dancing partners but today line-dancing-steps make western dancing easier because you don't need a partner.

This type of dancing is very popular no one knows why but our theory is even the less appealing cowboys can enjoy dancing without resorting to stag dancing like the above photograph.

Over many years history has shown that dancing has been a big part of the lifestyle of the cowboy. After a long spell on the ranch, mending fences and tending cattle, the range cowboy would make a trip into town for a much needed social life. The saloon was their favorite place to visit and dance.
The cowboy's appearance wasn't always the most appealing because their type of work did not allow the finer things in life like a bath every night or a shopping spree for new western clothes like the cowboys do today.
The ranch cowboys today still go into town to socialize but their appearance is drastically different. They're usually dressed in the latest country western apparel the newest

and boots.
As you see by the picture to the left, the times have really changed, including the dancing style. The cowboy learns how to dance through line-dancing-steps.
The newest cowboy dance steps were designed as a group activity. This types of dancing, lines individuals up singly side by side, row by row. The dancers listen and incorporates the lyrics of country music into their dances steps.
This style requires a certain number of sequential steps that are correlated with a particular song which is broken down into an even number of beats. Your responsibility is to be aware of others around you and try to focus on your own position instead of watching the individuals near you.
If you feel like you are out of step with the line-dance-steps, glance at the person in front of you to regain your proper footing. One of the most basic dancing steps is the grapevine sequence which is a foot over foot sideways movement. This is the most common transition from one sequence to the next. As your dancing steps improve, the dancing sequences will become less complicated. One of the more complex steps is called a triple step. This move is a three step within a two beat rhythm and is used in a faster version of the line dancing.
The walls of the dance club are used as the directional cues in line dancing. All four walls represent alternations between front to back steps, and side to side steps. Once you have become comfortable with the line-dancing-steps, they will become second nature which dancing.
