You will save time and money following a camping travel-packing-list when planning a pack trip on horses

The camping travel-packing-list is one of the important ways to make sure you have all the gear needed for your horseback camping trip.

The difference between the right and wrong gear could cancel the trip or at the least, cut it short.

It is best to use the camping travel-packing-list to prepare for your trip on horses, it is also important to check it again before you start the journey. If you check both times, you should have everything you need.

Essential Gear

Sawbuck & Packsaddle: consists of a tree, or wooden blocks that sit on the horse's back. Along with, a canvas saddle cover, ropes, and straps which are used to secure the load on the horse's back.

The packsaddle Ideally rests on a saddle blanket or saddle pad to spread the weight of the load and lessen its burden on the back of the horse.

Horse panniers: typically are made of lightweight plastic, or canvas and built to distribute weight evenly on either side of the horse.

Saddle check: make sure the saddle fits properly and double saddle pad every horse to prevent sores. Check that all tie strings are in good working order and long enough to tie on extra gear like a rain coat. Check out our horseback riding tips page for more helpful information about horses and pack trips.

river picture Water: is an important items on the travel-packing-list. It is the heaviest items to pack, so kept it to a minimum. When possible collect water from moving streams and rivers.

Carry a water filter with you to filter all water, just to be on the safe side. No one wants to be sick or running to the restroom when they are out in the forest. Right!

Tools: An Ax for cutting firewood and cleaning trails, A shovel for digging latrines, and a rake for camp clean up. Don't forget replacement horseshoes and nails, A clinch, nippers and small hammer.

Food: Plan a menu ahead of time and portion out the food by calculating how much each person will eat on the trip.

Remember the packsaddles, panniers, and saddle bags will lose weight as food supply diminishes, over the course of the journey. So redistribute weight evenly between the pack horses.

There should be a riding horse and a pack horse, with gear, for each person on the pack trip.

propane stove

Dutch ovens are a good choice for your cooking needs. You can cook with them, using fire, coal, or the propane stove.

Don't forget all the cooking utensils and eating supplies because it's hard to eat and drink hot food with your hands.
